(NEW YORK)–Sophia is the world’s most expressive humanoid robot, and very well may offer a unique insight for human interface with Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) in the future.
Sophia’s proprietary software, firmware, and hardware makes her nearly impossible to replicate, and with SingularityNET anyone could access her mind on demand.
Sophia, developed by Hanson Robotics, is now the Chief Humanoid at SingularityNET, which recently saw their CEO and Chief Scientist Dr. Ben Goertzel get into an online debate in early January 2018 with Facebook’s head of A.I. research Yann LeCun.
On Jan. 4, Mr. LeCun sent out a tweeted regarding Sophia in which he wrote:
“This is to AI as prestidigitation [conjuring tricks] is to real magic. Perhaps we should call this ‘Cargo Cult AI’ or ‘Potemkin AI’ or ‘Wizard-of-Oz AI’. In other words, it’s complete bullsh*t (pardon my French).”
Well of course this started a back and forth online from both parties, but also brought up the debate what exactly is Sophia?
Tom Bustamante, the Founder and CEO of AI VentureTech, Inc., a New York City based technology firm focused on start-ups in the areas of artificial intelligence, and automation commented, “I think some may have missed the point with Sophia that she was never strictly represented that this was the level of her Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) development, but rather she was a human interface on which humans will most likely be interacting with A.I. in real life situations in the future.”
“Sophia is designed to grow and learn based on sharing and input of new A.I. algorithms shared on SingularityNET blockchain, but what she is first and foremost is a human interface which will bring a “human factor” that can make interacting with A.I. a much more human like activity.”
“Obviously the level of A.I. and Deep Learning being developed at firms like Facebook, or Google’s DeepMind, are some of the most cutting edge in the industry, without a doubt. But there is going to be plenty of room for different ways humans interact with A.I in the future, be that by the cloud, mobile, social networks, or in the case of Sophia direct human interaction. This industry is only just beginning to grow and there will be plenty of room for multiple ways on how A.I. interacts with our lives, and Sophia is just one of many.”
Mr. Bustamante said, “The point I guess is no matter if we use Facebook, mobile apps, voice controlled assistants like Google Home or Alexa, or maybe sometime soon a human like robot like Sophia, the ways A.I. is about to encompass our lives its about to change big time in the coming years, and there is going to be lots of room for all these players. This is one thing you can take to the bank.”
